Chidi Collins was born in Aba, a town in Abia state, Nigeria. He had a deep desire, even during his early teens, to worship God. Whenever his family members looked for him, they knew they could find him in church praying or worshiping.
Chidi’s journey in music ministry began in street evangelism, an evangelist frequently took him and his little brother to the market squares, where both young boys sang their hearts out while he preached. At the age of 15, his music took a transformative turn when he accepted Christ and was filled with the Holy Spirit on the same day!
He went on to start an accapella group with his friends called, “Philharmonics”. They ministered in various churches in Abia state. It was during this time that he wrote the now popular Nigerian gospel song, “Bend Low”. “Bend Low” in its original form was an accapella song that compelled its listeners to relax or hand the reins over to God and watch what he can do in their lives. The song has since had several mainstream versions and is being sung in various churches around the world.
During his days as a law student at AbSU (Abia State University), his fire for soul winning and music ministry never quenched and many of his hit songs were birthed in those years. His sold-out and non-compromising approach to music ministry placed him in leadership roles within the church, university, and community music forums. He held multiple music director, music pastor, music instructor appointments/position, helping to start up, develop, grow, and mold choirs and young minds. Even today, Chidi continues to be a mentor to many, leveraging on his online platform and upcoming book to groom young music ministers and choirs to understand their divine mandate.
Chidi Collins has released several songs since the early 2000s, some recent hits include Ekele, Kabiyesi, Ezem, Yahweh and Otito. Those who know him in his youth, still want to hear his early songs, such as Never Go Back, Rapture, Miracle Worker, etc.
At the core of his Gospel music ministry lies a resounding message: “Worship is not just the song, Worship is a wholesome offering of oneself unto God.” He strives to deliver songs exactly as the Holy Spirit has given them, believing that the impact of a gospel song lies in its profound lyrics and divine message, not solely in the beat.
With faith as the bedrock of his music, Chidi aims to draw hearts closer to the Creator and inspire a deeper relationship with God.
Chidi Collins is married, and the couple believe their union is kingdom made for kingdom purpose. Both are working together diligently to fulfill their divine assignment
